1.  The Lord's sustenance - all bread comes from His hand.
2.  Their need for the Lord's discipline - they are a weak and sinful people, prone to disobedience.

After coming into the promised land and becoming wealthy, Moses forsees their tendency to forget these, thinking that they are the source of their wealth and that they are immune to sin and judgment.</description>
